San Francisco – Take 1

Every summer during June or July Siobhan makes a trip to Canada to visit her family.  Since both of us were in California with the RV this June, we both decided to go and fly out of San Francisco International Airport.  We left the RV in Coarsegold at Park Sierra, checked into a room at the El Rancho Best Western hotel near the airport around 1PM on Monday, June 26th and took the Jeep to Fisherman’s Wharf to explore the area.  We even used a new (to us) app called Parking Panda to reserve a parking space at the Zephyr Hotel (looked like a really great spot to stay if you were interested in a hotel near the wharf) so we didn’t have to drive around searching for a spot when we arrived.  Cool.

Remember “Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco treat”?  Siobhan, as a little girl, loved the “Rice-a-Roni truck” she saw in the TV commercial and ever since wanted to ride on it.  Of course, the first place we went when we arrived in San Francisco was Ghiardelli Square for tickets to ride the Powell/Hyde cable car line from Ghiardelli Square to Union Square – Powell Street Station and back.  It took over an hour waiting in line for the tickets but we were entertained by the street musicians and the crowd-watching.  We had a blast and fulfilled one of Siobhan’s bucket list items too!

Once back from our cable car tour of the city, we wandered around Firshermans Wharf doing some window shopping before choosing a Cioppino’s Restaurant for dinner.  Nice fresh salmon and a glass of wine.  And for dessert, a walk over to the Ghiardelli Factory for hot fudge sundaes.  What could be better?

A nice evening walk back to the Jeep at the Zephyr and an easy drive to the hotel to get some rest before our morning flight to Toronto.  It was a quick visit to the city but a lot of fun.
